From the 21 to the 26 of October, 10 international participants working in the cultural and social/youth sectors are trained at the A.N.T.Y.G.O.N.E. methodology in order to work later on with young disadvantaged people.
We are very happy to share with you the activities that have been done since we arrived last Friday !
DAY 1
The first day of the Training The Trainers session in Palermo was dedicated to the discovery of the ten participants from Teatro Alla Guilla (Italy), Kulturanova (Serbia), Divadlo Bez Domova (Slovakia) and ALTER EGO X (France) who will be trained with Valerio Strati (Teatro All Guilla) to the project methodology around the myth of Antigone.
During the theatre exercises, they learnt to meet each other, to share their backgrounds and experiences, and started to work on the myth of Antigone. Within Carlomauro Maggiore, professional dancer from Teatro Alla Guilla, they became particularly involved in the Feldenkrais pedagogy, which deals with how to become aware of the individual and collective body through movements and environments.
DAY 2
“Make the impossible possible
The possible easy
The easy elegant”
Moshe Feldenkrais
On the second day of the Train The Trainers session, participants began the day with a deeper insight into the Feldenkrais pedagogy.
As the tipping point of the A.N.T.Y.G.O.N.E. methodology, they opened up a reflection on freedom through the body's movements. According to Feldenkrais, freedom is deeply connected to the notion of choice. Being able to choose between more than two options, to create different ways of doing things, is the very beginning of freedom and is as infinite as creativity.
Participants thus explored different ways of using tiny body parts and showcased these gestures in acting games based on the characters of Antigone and Creon.
Activities:
1) Feldenkrais warm-up,
2) Participants shared pictures representing Creon and Antigone.
3) Collective walking exercise translating Creon and Antigone attitudes.
4) “Meeting game” were participants formed duos and performed a meeting between Creon and Antigone.
***
“Everything is a vibration”
In the afternoon, the participants entered the dramaturgy of a specific scene through theater methodologies shaped by Valerio Strati from Teatro Alla Guilla. Based on the line of a guard in the text but not performed on stage, they had to imagine three versions of Antigone trying to bury her brother and being caught by two guards.
This game created an unexpected reflection on the guards' characters, who represent the executive power but remain human beings independently of the state control. Whose side are they on? What might this scene say about society? To what extent does this detail influence the narrative of the myth?
Leaving this question open, the participants ended the day on the vibrations of the body as a language for collective dialogue through movement and rhythm. With Carlomauro Maggiore ( professional dancer from Teatro Alla Guilla), they did choreographic exercises embodying the different emotions and moments of the chorus.
Activities:
1) Improvisation game. By group of three, participants had to perform a specific scene from Antigone. They had to present three versions of the situation.
2) Choreographic workshop based on the Quality of Movements ’pedagogy created by Alwin Nikolais, using 6 rhythms to work on the collective body of Antigone’s Chorus:
Continuous – Lyrical - Segment - Accent - Bounce – Vibration.
Overall we are delighted with the collaboration between the participants and partners after these first two days which were rich and intense.
We look forward to sharing the rest of our Train The Trainers journey with you in the coming days.
