Pilot session in France n°2 : high school students from Annecy

Dernière mise à jour : 3 juin 2023

Keeping on with the experimentation of the ANTYGONE methodology, in April, ALTER EGO (X) led a second pilot session, this time with young students from a high school in Annecy, Haute-Savoie.

This time, the group was formed with girls who already knew each other as they were going to high school together, in the theatre class. During five days, Théo Majcher and Julie Crantelle, artistic directors of the company, worked with them, starting from a music they had to pick all together. They were quite surprised by the use of improvisation during the workshop, and came out with really intesting views on theatre:

"It's been a while since I haven't performed with people who speak as we speak today. We could share our own ideas, we were listened to, and we really took part of the creative process. We could create a project we really participated in. This wasn't all written, we changed things and we couldn't control everything."

In the end, they performed a parody of "Miss France", tackling sexism in contemporary society through those popular TV contests.

It was, again, interesting for Théo and Julie to work with a totally different audience : much younger girls, that already knew each other, and used the ANTYGONE steps to create a totally different path. But what also emerged in this session, is that it was initially planned to have in the group young people from a social centre of Annecy, MJC. An open call was disseminated but no one from the centre registered. That pointed out another difficulty, or should we say reality, of A.N.T.Y.G.O.N.E. project and European project in a broader way: the difficulty of finding an audience, and the difficulty of triggering young people's interest in artistic activites such as theatre, among the overload of leisure activities offered in social centres.
